Rosie Boote—from Gaiety Girl to Marchioness

Venue: The Courthouse - Meath County Council Stage

Rose, Marchioness of Headfort, was the wife of the 4th Marquis. They first met in 1900, when Rosie was rising to fame as a singer at The Gaiety Theatre in London. Their romance encountered disapproval from King Edward VII, the ire of Geoffrey’s military Commander-in-Chief, and the displeasure of his mother. Despite their differing social standings and religious backgrounds, they married in 1901 and lived at Headfort until Geoffrey’s death in 1943.
