Horslips at 50-ish

Barry Devlin and Jim Lockhart

Venue: Kells Theatre - Eirgrid Stage
The 1960s wasn’t particularly notable for the creation of enduring Irish rock groups. It was more of a Brendan Bowyer and the Royal Showband kind of era. Which meant that anyone of a certain age and with musical tastes beyond the Val Doonican embraced one of the only bona fide Irish rock and roll superstars of the period, Horslips. You didn’t need to know the opening riff of the martial ‘Marcshlua Uí Néill’ to thrill to ‘Dearg Doom’. The five-piece blazed a trail nationally and internationally for their unique brand of Celtic Rock, which had as much to do with Sean O’Ríada as Elvis or The Beatles. And they haven’t quite gone away, you know. Two of the original band members, Barry Devlin and Jim Lockhart, will join us for a ‘flash of silver in the sun’ as they reminisce about song cycles, album covers, trad influences and the very best Irish rock music. Barry and Jim will be in conversation with each other.
